Topic- Does a provocative dress define a woman?..ANALYST’s OPINION
Key notes: This topic can also apply to men but for the purpose of this discourse we are talking women here. Having said that, i know many folks will debate that the word ‘provocative’ is relative. Well ‘provocative’, ‘indecent’ are synonyms and you can simply google any of them and click “image” and that can sort that out.
But before you start, please draw a comparison between these images and spot the difference…“If you can”

In an ideal world a woman is not supposed to be defined by her dressing. A woman is a female man, created in God’s image and His likeness, a complete package of intelligence, beauty and inner strength. Women play the various roles of wife, mother, daughter, lover, friend, subordinate, colleague, oga, tenant, church member, chorister(or whatever department as the case may be),lagosian, facebooker, etc. The list or roles is endless. A woman has the innate ability to multitask these various roles amazingly, even more than “logical” men.
Fastforward to Nigeria, where money is worshiped, culture is strong, religion is fanatical, Lagos is stressful, responsibility is alien, decorum is lost, it’s a jungle. And thus, the rules of the jungle are in the backdrop. Eat or be eaten, do all it takes to achieve what you want.Personal agenda ish. That said, the little i know about women, a woman dresses according to how she feels that morning, the person she wants to go and meet, the purpose of the visit etc, etc.Her choice or clothing is dependent on how buoyant her self esteem is, how financially strong she is, how religious she is, her sexual experience, peer pressure, etc etc.
In conclusion, a provocative dress doesn’t describe a woman. By trying to describe, we are already labeling. Labeling means judging and Jesus said, he that is without sin should cast the first stone. Judge not so that you wont be judged. I rest my case
I personally believe show me your clothes and Jewelry and i can tell whats going on inside you. If i play by my rules stated then I can say that a provocative dress describes a woman only for the time its worn.
We all agree that there are attention seeker clothes for woman (I’m also guilty of this for men.). There is always a statement when clothes are worn.
For a young woman; too much cleavage suggests they need attention, for older woman it could mean something else, Maybe they are trying to accept the fact they’re getting old i guess.
So my Final answer is No, because that same person wearing a provocative dress today may not wear it tomorrow.
Happy new month people.”The way you dress is the way you will be addressed ” they say . However as a lady,we have different dress for different occasions and I don’t see why anyone should clamor on provocative ones when not found in provocative places. Just like you should not be seen dressed like a bride at a wedding, you should be found wearing native dresses(iro and buba, George wrapper and blouse e.t.c) in club houses and dinners.
In as much as we want to dress to kill,we should also dress to suit the occasion so that we won’t look different from what or who we really are.Best of luck to you Chamii. *Zee cares*.
Does a provocative dress define a woman? Female athletes – Female wrestlers – Female swimmers – Provocative dress(picture above). Hard to spot the difference right? So one will first ask; “if the society has set double standards”. One is a profession, the other is also a profession, the world accepts one and frowns at the other.
A female athlete is dressed professionally(it could pass for her brand), a female wrestler is dressed professionally(it could pass for her brand), a female swimmer is dressed professionally(it could pass for her brand), the sex worker with provocative dress is also dressed professionally(it could pass for her brand). Now this is the flip side. If a woman is dressed in the professional way a sex worker dresses(even if she is not a sex worker), it is only natural that she will be branded.
For the sake of argument; when we were in school, how do we know those “born again”, “SU” girls? The answer is in your face – by the long gowns they wear, no ear rings, always wearing scarfs to cover their hair etc. I’ve heard before that “you are a reflection of what you wear“. So if you are dressed in a sex workers professional outfit, it can simply reflect who you are, if you are dressed in “born again”, “SU” girls long gowns, it can simply reflect who you are.
Yes of course your true character might not have anything to do with your dress (10/10), but hey people might not see your character on first impression, but they certainly see your dress. So; “Does a provocative dress define a woman”?..On first impression ..totally YES! Sadly “we don’t often have the second chance to create a first impression”. So i always advice that we dress to suit whatever occasion we are attending.
