Giving our parents our first salary, does it have any significance?

Welcome to your talk show Impact Formula
Segment – Analysis of our Society’s Diaries (ASD)-(ANALYST’s OPINION)
Topic – Giving our parents our first salary, does it have any significance?

Key notes: I don’t know if this practice is universal but i sure know it’s something we can relate to as Nigerians. After university education and we go for our youth service, we hear many things like “I will give my first salary to my mum”, some say “i will give my first payment to my parents”. Has this practice outlived its usefulness or does it have a significance in our lives? As a matter of fact, someone sent me a “True story” on this subject that “she and her husband are having a rift over giving her parents her first salary”. She just got employed and will be receiving her first salary this month end and she told her hubby that she wants to give the money to her mum. As a matter of fact, her mum has already told her to bring her first salary to her. But her husband is mad and has blatantly said that it will never happen. She was asking me what to do….

Giving our parents our first salary, does it have any significance?

I will start with quoting (Ephesians 6:1-3)..“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with a promise, so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth”.

This might answer the question of “significance”.

However if the male/female involved is unmarried, he/she will not feel any obligation to a “spouse” regarding his/her first salary; hence it is an arbitrary decision as to whether he/she will give his/her parents the first salary.

But when the male/female involved is married. The tables ‘can’ turn.

Let me also quote (Ephesians 5:22-33)..”Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior”.

I can then say that it will take both the husband and the wife coming to a unanimous agreement as to what to do with her first salary.

I am placing emphasis on the WIFE because a woman sent me a true story on this subject saying that “her husband has refused her giving her first salary to her parents and she does not know what to do”.

I think it will be foolhardy for a woman to defy her husbands instruction in this context. I think her best bet is to pray to God about it as God will hold the man directly responsible if he misguides his wife.

I know she is reading this and “i hope my thoughts has helped you in some way”. “I wish you the best in whatever decision(s) you make”.

We really are all learners and i appreciate YOU my ANALYST’s for sharing your opinion. I look forward to more topics and your contributions. Thank you so much as we continue the conversation on this thread. Thank you for viewing Guess Iyke’s (ASD). You can join also our team of ANALYST’s.

  1. Mr. Wells says:

Like i Read from @solabomi_g on IG.. If Parents collect a small portion and give back the money to the child… My Point is Why not just pray for the Child without even seeing the First Salary or Collecting a small portion from it… I still don’t get the Significance here man!

Just Pray or Bless the child without seeing the money when they tell you they’ve been paid for me ohhh!
