Manchester United have revealed that they were forced to pay £8.4 million to part with Louis van Gaal and his coaching staff.
The Dutchman left his role as manager at the end of the last campaign, with United finishing fifth in the table and thus missing out on a place in the Champions League.
And United’s accounts for the 2015-16 financial year, released on Monday, have confirmed that the Red Devils shelled out £8.4m in compensation payments to the 65-year-old and the rest of the coaching staff that left the club.
The cost of sacking Jose Mourinho before the conclusion of his contract is likely to be considerably higher, however, with the United boss reportedly earning double that of Van Gaal’s wage.
