Police have launched an appeal to trace singer Sinead O’Connor after she was reported missing. The 49-year-old Irish star has not been seen since she went on a bike ride at 6am on Sunday in the Chicago suburb of Wilmette.
In a statement, Wilmette police said they were “seeking to check the well-being” of the musician.
A force spokesman said: “O’Connor reportedly left the Wilmette area for a bicycle ride yesterday at 6am and has not returned.
“A caller has expressed concern for her well-being and no other information is available at this time.”
O’Connor, who has a history of mental health problems, wrote on Facebook in December that she has been detained in hospital for a mental health evaluation.
The singer had sparked fears for her well-being a month earlier when she wrote another Facebook post claiming she had overdosed on pills in a hotel room in Ireland.
She was later found safe and taken to hospital.
Earlier this month, American comedian Arsenio Hall filed a five million US dollars (£3.5m) libel lawsuit against O’Connor after she accused him of furnishing Prince with drugs.
The lawsuit states O’Connor, who scored a hit in 1990 with her rendition of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U, barely knew the superstar and calls her accusations “fabricated lies”.
The legal action came after O’Connor wrote a Facebook post stating investigators looking into the supply of drugs used by Prince should question Hall. She also accused him of drugging her.
